Okotoks, AB – Friday, May 26, 2023 Game Recap vs Brooks Bombers.

The Dawgs opened the season with a two-game series with the Brooks Bombers starting at Seaman Stadium tonight where they started their title defence with a convincing 16-6 win. The Dawgs had a massive first inning where they scored 6 of their 16 total runs to take a command of the game early and didn’t look back. The Dawgs would add 5 more in the 5th to seal the victory.

The Dawgs bats picked up where left off from last season, in the first inning Trent Lenihan (UBC) had the first hit of the season which started the massive 6 run first inning for the Dawgs. Lenihan ended the night with 3 hits. Noah Geekie (Emporia State) followed it up with a single and RBI in the first, where he finished with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. The Dawgs had a combined 18 hits in the win.

Matt Wilkinson (Arizona State) started his first game of the season. Wilkinson pitched 2 scoreless innings and finished with three strikeouts, and no earned runs. Relief pitching kept the Bombers bats quiet for most of the game until the sixth and eighth inning where they knocked in a combined 5 runs in the two innings. Daniel Hutchinson (Chandler-Gilbert Community College) came in and struck out 2 batters in the ninth inning to close things down for the Dawgs in game 1.

The Dawgs will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Brooks Saturday to conclude their opening week series.
