A request for a land use change that would have allowed for lots north of the Ranchland Mall to be paved over for parking has been turned down.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says it was a decision for administration to make but they wanted council's input.

"Council was unanimous that we're not just taking three lots and turning it into a parking lot for that facility, that's not the vision that we have for our community is do things like that."

Lansdowne Equity Ventures had appeared at a previous Committee of the Whole meeting to request the change.

Representatives said they needed the change because Dollarama was looking at moving into the mall and wanted more parking.

Snodgrass had previously said he believed plenty of parking stalls were already available for the Shopper's Drug Mart, behind the building and on the street.
