The 2016 Western Major Baseball League season gets started this Wednesday for the Okotoks Dawgs.

But first up is Fanfest which goes Tonight, Friday May 27, at Seaman Stadium.

Dawgs president John Ircandia says it should be a lot of fun.

"The kids in the community just love the Dawgs so they get to come out and get pumped up for the season so tonight's their night, and it's nice to entertain the host families and they get to meet the players and the fans that show up can say hello to their favourite Dawg or figure out who their favourite Dawg for this summer's going to be so it's fun," Ircandia says.

Ircandia says fans can get their first look at the new scoreboard.

"The video board is spectacular, we've been playing with it and learning how to use the graphics," he says. "It's all high definition, so it's fantastic, we've got a couple of cameras so we can produce special features like a "kiss cam" and you know, as our announcer says we have the greatest fans in baseball and we like them to be happy and we want to entertain them with some good baseball and a lot of fun and this is going to really up the ante in terms of the game day experience."

The Dawgs take on the Mavericks Wednesday and Thursday nights in Medicine Hat and then return home Friday June 3, for their home opener against the Fort McMurray Giants.
