Student loans are now going to be collected by Revenue Canada instead of Human Resources Canada.

The change was made because Revenue Canada has dealt extensively with tax payers to collect outstanding amounts.

Debt Doctor Stanley Kerschman says there are penalties if you don't pay up.

"If the monies aren'e paid then the Governemnet can sue the debtors and or the student loan borrowers and collect thier money. And if they don't pay after they've gotten judgement, they can either garnish thier wages, seize their bank accounts or take back any refund cheques that the student tax payer may be owed."

Kerschman adds that there is 3 billion dollars in outstanding student loan money.
