It seems the CFL is on the way to cancelling its 2020 season, while no official statement has been made regarding this years season the CFL’s commissioner Randy Ambroise made a statement to the House of Commons regarding the financial situation of the CFL.

The CFL is operating off the revenue generated in advance of the 2020 season and should the season be cancelled would likely have to be re-paid resulting in a very serious and very real financial crisis.

Ambrosie told the House of Commons that among the CFL’s clubs the league is collectively losing around 10-20 million per season. This prompted Ambrosie to request financial help from the House of Common saying the league provides the country with 1.2 billion in annual economic activity.

Ambrosie requested 130 million over the next two years including 30 million to support this season stating without the assistance the league may not withstand the missed revenue of the 2020 season and could result in a tough future for the CFL.

“We want to make sure this does not mean no CFL in the future,” Ambrosie said during his statement.
