New home buyers in Alberta will soon have full confidence in buying a home.

The Alberta Government is proposing changes to home warranties, the biggest being they will become mandatory.

This proposition comes a month after the new regulations for home inspectors were introduced.

Municipal Affairs Minister Hector Goudreau says buyers can expect many changes.

Goudreau says 80% of the homes are already covered by some warranty but this will cover the remaining 20% as well.

Along with those increases, home builders will also see maximum fines increased from $15,000 to $100,000 for first offences and from $30,000 to $500,000 for subsequent offences.

The Safety Codes Act will also be under review and the Safety Codes Council will provide building envelope training to all Safety Codes Officers over the next year.
