Big Sky BBQ Pit north of Okotoks is one of several Alberta restaurants ordered to shut down areas of their dining spaces after inspections from Alberta Health Services this week.

According to the Notice of Closure issued by AHS, the restaurant was serving food in what was considered an indoor space, with three walls and a roof.

It also says the infraction was communicated to the owner during a previous inspection.

The section in question connects to a larger patio area that was not included in the order.

Big Sky's owner, Rob Bolton, says only a small portion of the dining area was included in the order, with a majority of the patio allowed to remain open.

He says the order of closure only applied to that specific area, and the restaurant was allowed to continue operations with the rest of their outdoor patio.

All in-person dining, including on outdoor patios, will be prohibited starting Monday and lasting for at least three weeks, as per the province's latest COVID-19 measures.

Until then, Big Sky plans to make the most of the weekend by offering patio service to customers while it's still permitted.
