The High River Heat lacrosse team held a game on Saturday June 23 as a memorial to Justin MacKenzie.

MacKenzie who was a player for the Heat, tragically passed away in 2016 in a car accident on his way to work.

Head coach for the team Larry Makortoff says he aimed to retire MacKenzies jersey: " We are going to retire #27, we pondered the idea with the town, there's always politics involved and we finally got the go ahead to put a jersey box up, we're going to retire his jersey and hang up a banner today."

The High River Heat played the Olds Stingers in the memorial game, which marked the last game of the regular season.

Makortoff says the Olds team was the team they played after MacKenzies passing: "We had a team meeting after he was killed, two days later the boys wanted to play, so we went up to Olds and they accomodated us great."

The Olds Stingers were also faced with tragedy this Spring, as they also had a player who was also killed in a car accident.

Makortoff says: "It's a healing process for both teams who have experienced loss."
