The Senate has adopted Bill C-79, the act to implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The CPTPP was signed in March by 11 countries including Canada.

Following a few more documentary necessities, the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association expects that in the next few days, Canada will notify the CPTPP Secretariat in New Zealand that we have ratified the Agreement and join Australia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Singapore as the first six to ratify.

The agreement comes into force 60 days after six of the 11 countries have ratified it, giving those countries first-mover advantage.

This would be a big benefit for Canada's beef and pork exports into countries such as Japan.
