The Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park has been named the best place in the world to look at the nightly stars.

According to travel agency Inghams, it ranked number one amongst 122 planetary locations.

It was also the only Canadian location to make the top 10.

  1.  Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, Canada.
  2.  Yeongyang Firefly Eco Park, South Korea.
  3.  Ainos National Park, Greece.
  4.  Mayland Earth to Sky Park & Bare Dark Sky Observatory, USA.
  5.  UbarU Camp and Retreat Center, USA.
  6.  Pickett CCC Memorial State Park & Pogue Creek Canyon State Natural Area, USA.
  7.  Hehuan Mountain, Taiwan.
  8.  De Borschplaat, Netherlands.
  9.  Elan Valley Estate, Wales.
  10.  Naturpark Attersee-Traunsee, Austria.

The area has long been known as a Dark Sky Park with help from Parks Canada.

Canada has 13 other Dark Sky preserves including two other National Parks in Alberta, Jasper and Elk Island.

The Rothney Astrophysical Observatory near Millarville is also Dark Sky country if you want to do some stargazing.

In 1932 Waterton Lakes National Park joined the Glacier National Park in Montana to form the world's first International Peace Park. The park is right on the Canada-USA border.
