Livingstone-Macleod's MLA has weighed in on the approval of the Trans-Mountain Pipeline by the Federal Liberals Tuesday, June 18.

Roger Reid says it's not a big surprise, but says the proof of the Feds intent will be when they actually start to work.

"It's the second or third time they've approved it. That's where the proof will be in the pudding is when we've got shovels in the ground and we've got people actually working on putting the pipeline in place. That's when we know we'll have success."

Now that the pipeline has been approved for the second time, the Province of Alberta will have to prepare for a fight.

Pipeline opponents will be rallying the troops, with legal challenges already in the works and Livingstone-Macleod MLA, Roger Reid, says that's exactly why the government has created a "war room."

"It's really again being proactive for Albertan's and Alberta energy to make sure that we anticipate potential legal challenges and arrange it to hit those head on. It's working very hard to simply tell the true story of Alberta's ethical human rights standards around energy production, versus what's being allowed to come into this country."

Reid says the other big fight on their hands could be against the Federal Government if they pass Bill's C-48 and C-69 which would all but crush Alberta's oil industry.

Reid points out if and when construction starts, it'll be good news for people in his riding as there'll be jobs for people here who've been struggling to find work in the energy sector since the downturn.
