Yellow fish will soon be found all over High River.

The High River Pathfinders will take part in Trout Unlimited Canada's Yellow Fish Road project this year.

The project will see the Pathfinders painting yellow fish near storm drains in town to mark them as doorways to our rivers, lakes, and streams, not somewhere to dump chemicals.

Pathfinder leader Joy George says it teaches environmental stewardship.

"(It teaches) environmental awareness and getting our Girl Guides from Sparks to Pathfinder age, so from ages five to fifteen, out there and passionate about the environment."

Pathfinder Mya George says the project is about protecting the health of our rivers.

"Well, it's to bring recognition that any substances going down our storm drains affects us all. In most cities and towns, things in the storm drains lead directly into lakes and streams without being treated."

George says some of the harmful substances that often go down storm drains are "things used on our lawns, soapy water used when we wash our cars," as well as dirt and oil.

Town Council gave the thumbs up to the project which runs May 29th.
