A new initiative in Okotoks is looking to connect women in the community.

Women Talk Okotoks is a way for women from all walks of life to share their experiences, empower each other, and listen to two speakers TED Talk style.

Michele Noordhof, chapter director for Women Talk Okotoks, says it's a beneficial way to get away from the world for an evening.

"We are very much based on making those connections and just loving and supporting one another and I think that's why it's going to be fantastic for Okotoks and women to come and be part of a special evening that's just for them."

Women Talk originally started in Calgary in 2012 by Brigitte Lessard as an annual event and in 2015 the affair turned monthly.

Noordhof says it took off from there.

"There are local chapters popping up all over the place. We've got chapters in Edmonton, Red Deer, Strathmore, the launch is coming in Okotoks next week, and Medicine Hat in February."

The Women Talk Okotoks launch takes place Tues. Jan. 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Roma Italian Restaurant and from there events will be held on the third Tuesday of every month.

Tickets can be purchased for $17 ahead of time by clicking here or are $25 at the door.
