The Alberta government is required to update their sunshine list in December and June, but the Wildrose party says the NDP haven't updated their list since coming to power. Sunshine lists show everyone above a certain wage, around a $125,000 a year, making sure people know what their public officials are up to.

Wildrose Shadow Democracy and Accountability Minister Jason Nixon says he's glad to see the government enforce this law on others, though he expects the government to follow their own rules as well.

"Well there's a couple sunshine lists of course that are associated with the government. One of the new ones, or at least the area that's been beefed up recently by the NDP government is to do with what we call ABCs. So that's been done, and they were quite proud of that and we agree with them. It's something we and have advocated for a long time."

He says the government is proud to have updated the sunshine list for agencies, boards, and commissions (ABCs), but haven't got their own house in order.

"What we also noticed is they were touting that, but they had not updated the actual government one of the employees that work for them. What there is is there's a treasury board directive that requires it to be updated every June and every December, and it hasn't been updated once since the NDP came into power. So that would be both December 2015 it should have been done and of course this June 2016 that is upcoming."

Nixon says the government is not living up to their platform of openness.

"We find it really disappointing that while they're working to get the third party agencies up to date they're not able to even get their own house in order. What I do know is that they ran on a platform of openness and transparency, but since forming government it appears it's been anything but. It's the rules and we're a little concerned this government is not following their own rules."

Nixon says he asked questions in the legislature on Monday and based on the premiers answers he doesn't hold much hope that the lists will be updated in June. He says the premier seemed to be greatly confused about the rules and regulations, and the Wildrose will continue to ask questions.
