Members of the Wildrose party gathered with about 1,500 of their closest friends and neighbours Thursday afternoon on the steps of the legislature.

They were there to protest Bill 6, the farm workers protection act.

Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson says the government is not consulting with the people that will be most affected by the legislation.

Anderson says people in his riding were heroes for travelling to Okotoks to protest the Bill.

"My constituents rallied together to show these NDP neophytes know exactly what farmers are all about," he says. "We're not 9 to 5 workers, we're 24/7 workers and we support one of the biggest industries in Alberta. We put food on your plate, we're the stewards of the land and these people took the day off, got in their trucks, got in their tractors, got in their vehicles of all sorts, and got on their horses too, and it's always great to see a protest in Alberta because someone's always got a hockey stick."

He says the NDP Government's already gone after the oil and gas industry and now its set its sights on farmers and ranchers.
