Western Financial Group handed over a cheque for a $1,000 Friday to the Salvation Army Food Bank.

High River branch Manager Linda Holmes says it was all part of a contest.

"We had the opportunity to collect donations for the food bank, we did that at our branch here in High River and we ended up winning one of the potential prizes of $500 by collecting the most food bank donations," Holmes says. "With those donations we diced to pay it a little farther forward, we took ours to the local High River Day Care Before and After program and we added our food to the donations that they had been collecting because they were also trying to give back to the community. We added ours to theirs, they won themselves a little pizza party from being able to do that and they've since taken it over to the food bank."

She says head office, also in High River, was also a $500 winner for the most creative design of their food bank donations making them represent the town of High River..

Lieutenant Cory Fifield with the Salvation Army says the donation shows that the community care about each other.

"This is a huge reminder for us that we have a community that cares, not just a community that expects us to provide for the needs of the people that are living here but a community that recognizes that this is a community effort, that we are the community food bank," Lt. Fifield says.

He says it's great to see the staff at Western Financial Group stepping up to help and recognizing the need.
