A new election web site in Nanton is turning out to be a great spot to gather information about candidates running in the upcoming municipal election.

Nanton Votes 2017 launched on Tuesday and is a place for the candidates to post their biographies and a place for voters to ask them questions.

There are two people running for mayor and 11 people running for council.

Resident Dayna Dickens was getting frustrated finding information on the people running so she designed the web site to help out candidates and voters.

"It was totally a last minute decision," said Dickens. "I was trying to follow the municipal election here in Nanton and trying to get as much information as possible."

Her source of information is mostly from the Internet and she noticed a lot of the candidates didn't have a presence on Facebook, or other social media or website locations."

"I started to get really frustrated by how many different places conversations were taking place. Even more than that, frustrated by how much interference and chatter there was from the community."

She felt the negatively was interfering with the messages the candidates were trying to share.

That is when she came up with the idea of a web site, where people could respond to questions and not have your opinion swayed by someone else's comments.

The candidates forum in Nanton is a debate form, so the public will have to wait until after the formal presentation of the evening to ask questions.
