A library closing is usually not good news but in this case it's a huge sign of progress.

The Head Librarian at the High River Centennial Library Deb Gardiner says they're finally going home.

"The 26th of September, which is this Saturday, part of Alberta Culture Days celebration, is our last day in the Sprung structure," she says. "We'll be closing down and moving back to our original location. It's going to take a little while just to make sure all the technology and all the little bumps are out are out of the new structure, or the renovated structure."

Gardiner says they'll be doing a soft opening tentatively scheduled for Oct 15.

She says it's much bigger than just moving boxes of books.

"All that coordination of the technology, making sure that all of the players in that are in place and certainly the books and everything are a big part of it too but then you have to take the shelves down and reassemble them too, so it get's to be a pretty big production," she says.

Gardiner urges patrons to come in before Saturday and stock up and due dates will be extended so materials aren't due back while the library's still closed and library cards are good at any other library in the Marigold system including Okotoks or the Sheep River Library.

She's sorry about losing the W.O. Mitchell theatre but hopes that another performing space can be built in the future, if not at the library somewhere else.
