With the hot dry weather extending into the foreseeable future it is time to give the trees in your yards a drink of water.

Tannas Webb, parks supervisor with the Town of High River says trees in the region are use to dry years.

"We forget, we have a few years of rain and we are fortunate," said Webb. " And then we are back to the same dry drought-like conditions. Watering is crucial.  I like to just do a trickle on mine at my own home occasionally and make sure they are well watered in for the winter."

She adds it never hurts to water unless you are in an area with heavy clay, then you could over-water.

As for the trees the town looks after they are watered for the first two years after they are planted.

"We just continue to monitor them and water them as we have capacity. We water about 300 a year. A lot of the mature trees can handle the drought periods as they are use to it.

Webb added a nice layer of mulch at the bottom of your tree will help it retain moisture longer.
