Neighbours have identified the victims of Monday's early morning house fire in Vulcan that claimed the lives of two people.

They say the house belonged to local Lawyer Karen Currie and her partner Rob Farrow.

RCMP have yet to confirm the identities of the victims, or the circumstances around or the cause of the fire.

Alberta Justice says Farrow had spent time in jail recently for assault and unlawful confinement, with Currie as the victim.

Vulcan Mayor, Tom Grant, lives just a few doors away from the couple and was one of the first on the scene.

Grant, a volunteer fire fighter, says he tried to get into the home, but couldn't and had to wait for the rest of the department to show up.

RCMP and fire officials continue to investigate.
