The Town of High River's decided to take its show on the road, or at least its Visitor Information Centre.

The centre had been set up at the Monroe Barn at Sheppard Family Park until the 2013 flood, so Joan Botkin, with the town, says they decided to make it portable.

"Our Visitor Information staff take the Visitor Information Centre and set it up at the different events that are happening in High River throughout the summer months," Botkin says. "So instead of expecting the visitors to come to them, they go to where the visitors are."

The travelling centre won an AMMY award from Alberta Tourism for innovation last year. The award recognizes achievement at Alberta Information Centres for being innovative and she says it was such a success last year they've decided to do it all again.

She says as the community comes back from the flood more visitors will come to see what's happening.

"I think we're going to continue to see growing success for High River as we go forward," she says. "I mean I bike around, even at lunch time because the green spaces around here are so beautiful, and I know that it will become more and more of a destination. People want to come see Maggie's Diner from Heartland, we have a number of companies coming into film and people come just so they can be in the famous place, we have a famous people, famous places map so people can stand in the same location where, maybe an actor stood in Fargo."

The travelling centre will be set up Canada Day at George Lane Park.
