Crews from Vulcan County, Milo, Champion, Carmangay, Lomond, Arrowwood and Siksika turned out to fight a crop fire Monday northeast of Milo.

The Director of Protective Services for Vulcan County, Doug Headrick says they got the call about 4:15 in the afternoon...

"Milo Fire responded to a combine fire which ended up transitioning in to a standing crop fire, we lost about 240 acres of barley with two structures threatened, I would says those residences were evacuated and the units that responded were able to get a hold of it pretty quick," Headrick says.

He says besides the fire departments they had a number of county water trucks and graders and farmers who brought diskers and water trucks that greatly aided in their efforts to fight the fire.

Headrick says there are fire bans in place but he recognizes this is something that can happen when farmers are taking off the crop and the fire departments are ready to help when called upon.
