United Conservative Party leadership candidate Brian Jean made a stop in High River Thursday afternoon at Carlson's On Macleod.

Jean says he'll fight to get Alberta a fair shake in confederation.

"As a lawyer and litigator, people are confident in my ability to get what Alberta has coming to it under the law of equity in relation to our constitution, how we're being not treated fairly by other parts of Canada, particular provinces and in fact equalization payments" Jean says. "We're making those equalization payments of $22 to $28-billion a year and we need help and Ottawa just takes, takes, takes and doesn't support us in our time of need."

With the sitting of the Legislature starting just days after the leadership vote, Jean says it's also important that whoever's elected leader already has a seat and he's the only one of the candidates who does.

He says polls have consistently shown he's the only one of the three candidates who can win in both rural and urban ridings.

"The polls have indicated over the last nine consecutive months that am the only one who can win in Edmonton, I can win 50 per cent of the seats in Edmonton, they've consistently shown that I am the most popular political leader across the province, whether it's in Calgary, Edmonton or rural Alberta and that means that I'm positioned to win the most seats and make sure the NDP don't win government again," he says.
