Two committees have become one in Okotoks, revolving around the River Valley Committee along with the Okotoks and District Culture, Parks and Recreation Committee.

Town Council approved the now amended by-law 20-15 at Monday's meeting, allowing more ideas to voiced at meetings between each other instead to two separate ones prior to the ruling.

Mayor Bill Robertson says the merging of both committees just makes life easier for both committees.

"It was recommended that we try and reduce the numbers of committees that council has," he says. "With that the things that committees do are important but could committees be folded into one another so that we have one meeting to discuss the joint purposes."

Robertson says having the River Valley Committee joining with Culture, Parks and Recreation will have two committees working together on almost the same agenda to begin with.

"The River Valley Committee had been working on some great things in particular to the active transportation committee, it was also working on the river valley management plan," he says,". "It was agreed to fold the RVC into the Culture, Parks and Recreation Committee which is where it was until about 12 years ago."

He says the RVC will benefit greatly from being a part of the CPR committee again.

"We're creating a standing member for River Valley management issues on that committee," Robertson says. "There will be a place on the CPR on a regular monthly basis, we're still going to be discussing those issues but we're going to certainly try and keep it in one committee."
