The Town of Turner Valley is working hard to pinch every penny they can as they're in the middle of their budget talks.

The operating budget is where the focus is now and Mayor Kelly Tuck says they've already managed to cut a proposed tax hike of 4% down to 2%.

"We're trying to get it right down, understanding that the economy wouldn't hold a four or five percent increase. There's no way. People are already struggling. And I think as we move forward, it's going to continue. So we're just trying to be extremely frugal. What do we need? What do we actually, truly need this year? And what can we put off until maybe there's a turnaround in the economy."

Tuck says they Town will also hold the line on water, garbage and recycling rates, but will have to bump up sewer rates by 15% to continue their plan of full cost recovery.

However, to put that into perspective, the increase will cost the average homeowner about $3.00 a month.
