The Town of High River's Emergency Management Coordinator has put out a statement in regards to Environment Canada's special weather statement.

While large amounts of rain are being predicted for some areas, High River and the MD of Foothills area in general, is only expecting 10 mm of rain (likely falling as snow in the mountains) over the next 48 hours.

It'll have little impact on the river but it’s a good idea to check sump pumps and basements due to high groundwater.

The river is currently flowing higher than usual for this time of year due to the warm temperatures on the weekend melting much of our snow pack, but IT'S still well within normal ranges for spring.

Right now, the river is at 52 cubic metres per second, and the normal range at the beginning of June is around 70.

The Highwood River is a different sub-basin than the Bow River, so forecasts for Calgary may not be applicable in our area.

Calgary is expecting more precipitation than we are for this weather event.

The Town has put out some stats:

*Localized flooding in Wallaceville: ~350 m3/s
*Centre Street closure: ~450 m3/s
*Right now these are estimates, because we haven’t had high water levels since the dikes were installed, but they are good ballpark figures

2013 flood: ~1850 m3/s
2005 flood: ~700 m3/s

Rainfall in 2013: 350 mm in 72 hours
