The Town of High River has received $10,000 in grant funding from TD Bank's Friends of the Environment Foundation grant program to build two new community gardens.

It's now looking for members to join a temporary Community Garden Ad Hoc Committee, which will find locations for the gardens, as well as determine their size and style.

Parks and culture coordinator with the Town, Sarah Mitchell, says after the groundwork is in place, the committee would be allowed to disband, and they would then search for members to sit on a more permanent committee that would oversee the operations and maintenance of the gardens.

"There's no reason that (the members) couldn't continue on. It's just as far as their connection with the Town of being a committee, they would disband once that framework is set up," she says. "It's a very temporary (committee) and we're hoping to have everything set up by the fall."

She adds that the hope is to have the gardens ready for residents by spring of 2016.

If you're interested in joining the Community Garden Ad Hoc Committee, you're asked to submit a letter of interest (no more than 500 words) to Sarah Mitchell at smitchell@highriver.ca.

The deadline to apply is July 3.
