The Town of High River wants to know what residents want to see in the area of recreation in the future.

The Director of Community Services for the Town Lisa Reinders says it carries on the town council's strategic vision to establish a community where people work, live and play.

"This plan will will also be setting out the 10 or 20 year vision for the town," she says. "We'll also be consulting the community on what they really feel they value in recreation and parks."

She says there's a trend for young people to return to where they grew up so they need to get the views of young people.

"If we're going to be engaging with the youth there's a really good chance those same youth will be living in our community in 10 or 20 years from now, so if they get to say what's really important to them now they'll be utilizing those facilities in the near future," she says.

Reinders says it's not just about whether to build new recreation centres, but also involves pathways and parks and what sorts of programs people want the town to provide.

They've  been asked to come up with the plan by the end of the year.
