The Town of High River recently brought in two mountain bikes that are available to employees as part of a bicycle-share pilot project that will go over the next several months.

Director of Corporate Services Robyn Green says it's all part of Councils new initiative to promote healthy lifestyles.

"Council has a strategic goal of creating a people-first community, and that also applies to our staff. We thought it'd be a great opportunity to give them some time to enjoy our beautiful town, and new downtown core, trails and green spaces. It will also help them to relieve some stress, it has so many benefits."

She says if there's enough interest and adds hopefully there will be, we could see more bikes added to the towns fleet next year.

Green says they care about the well being of the community and town employees.

"I think most importantly we really do care for our employees health, well-being and happiness, and I think this will really contribute to that. Personally I would rather have a one-on-one meeting with a staff member by going out to George Lane Park, and riding around as opposed to sitting in a boardroom."

She says aside from being able to take in the beautiful trails around town it will also help some staff get from point A to Z.

"We have so many different facilities in town that are in different locations. We're often having to get in our cars, drive over to the Rec Plex from the Administrative Building, and take up parking spots that could be used for residents. So we can take the bikes and pop over there."

She says so far the response has been positive, adding she's received several emails back from staff saying this is something they've been looking forward to for a long time.

She says if the response continues to be as good as it has been the town will look to add more bikes to their fleet next year.
