The Opposition Conservatives put up a fair bit of a fuss before and during the budget speech Tuesday, March 19 in the House of Parliament.

Foothills MP John Barlow says the pounding on their desks and chants of "let her speak" were a protest against the Liberal led Justice Committee shutting down debate on the SNC/Lavalin scandal.

"We had to send a message that Prime Minister Trudeau and the Liberals can't shut down public debate on one of the most important issues facing Canada right now. And that's the SNC/Lavalin scandal. And if he wants to attack democracy and shut down debate within parliament. We're going to have to stand up and fight against that."

Barlow says they're working on other ways of keeping the issue moving forward.

"We're working with other committee's. Now the Ethics Committee is going to try and carry the torch. I know the Senate is also looking at ways to bring Jody Wilson-Raybould to their committee's to try and do this. So, yeah, there are other ways for us to do that and we're going to be using every single tool we have."

Barlow says shutting down discussion in not what Canadians want to see.
