Time is starting to tick down for people thinking of running for a seat on High River Town Council or for the mayors chair in the municipal election.

Returning officer Kara Rusk will be accepting nominations for mayor and council on Monday Sept. 18th from 9 a.m till noon.

"For anyone that is interested in becoming a candidate either for mayor or council they are welcome to come in and submit their paperwork at that time," said Rusk. "All of the paperwork that is necessary is up on the Town's website at High River dot ca."

Other municipalities and school boards are only accepting nominations from 10 a.m. till noon.

And for candidates that are running that is the time they must submit their paperwork, not before and not one minute after.

Council has expanded the time by one hour to open it up a little bit more.

Some other changes that are important to note is you cannot start fundraising until you have filed your paperwork and you need 15 signatures, instead of five.

"It is a wonderful time for the community to get engaged."

The vote will be held on Oct. 16th, with an early vote on Oct. 8th.

"It is a a time to get out and get your voice heard," said Rusk.

So far James Kinghorn, Justin Murphy, Michael Harding, Michael Nychyk and Bruce Masterman have filed a notice of intent application.
