It's that time of year again where most of us are switching to winter tires.

Ryan Lee, Manager of Ward Tire in High River says there are several factors to consider when buying winter tires.

"That's the decision everybody has to make according to their budget, tolerance to risk, the type of vehicle they drive and according to the kind of driver they are."

He advises there's a time to get them on our vehicles.

"Before Halloween is ideal because conditions are cold enough that you don't have to worry about the tire wearing prematurely and my winter tires stay on until after May long weekend."

Lee adds there's one important thing to remember.

"Having four matching tires especially on front drive vehicles.  If you have more traction on the front of the vehicle than you do on the back, if you get into an emergency braking situation that backend of the vehicle is going to end up swinging around on you."
