The High River Chamber of Commerce 'Lunch and Learn' series this March offered some tips on sales and how to keep and grow your client base.

Alice Wheaton, a "Top Line Turnaround Expert," says sales people need to make sure they're keeping in touch with your clients, past and present, then go out and find new ones.

"Take care of the clients you have now,"  Wheaton said.  "Which means phone them, reach out to them, connect with them, pull them towards you because if you are not doing that then your competition is going to be a predator in your territory."

She added once you've covered all your bases and connected with every client, make sure they're happy and see what can make them happier, then you can go after new clients.

Wheaton says one of the biggest reasons sales people often fail at their jobs is because they're afraid of rejection.

But the more systems and processes you have in place, the easier it is to go forward and make those calls and take the risk.

"I like to say show up bigger than you feel, ask for what you want, and be willing to be rejected,"  Wheaton said.
