The barricades are starting to come down along 12 Avenue west of the traffic circle in High River.

Council decided a couple of weeks ago that with the southwest berm still hung up in the government's corridors it was time to return the road to two way traffic.

Crews have begun removing the concrete portions of the temporary berm put up after the 2013 flood.

Only the concrete barriers are coming down, the large sandbags will remain in place until if, or when, work begins on the southwest berm which mayor Craig Snodgrass has said is at least a year away.

He has said work is about to begin as well on Macleod Trail in front of Spitzee school, meaning the need for another route was even more important.

The speed limit on the road is down to 30 km/hr during the work and will remain there until the road is fully reopened.

Crews work Tuesday bringing down concrete barricades along 12 Avenue, just west of the traffic circle in High River.
