An emotional, but exciting presentation to the Roe family at the Okotoks Oilers game Saturday night, as over $10,000 was given to her husband and two children.

On Friday, Oct.13 the Oilers held a memorial game for Tara Roe, who was one of the victims of the Las Vegas shooting.

Over 1,400 fans came out to the memorial game, which was also a fundraiser.

Dawn Lemaistre, Okotoks Oilers Business Manager, says they were able to raise thousands throughout the night.

"On the game day we were able to raise a total of just under $3,300 and that was through ticket sales for special purple tickets that we created for the game night, as well as a donation box for purple ribbons that was available at the game that evening."

Lemaistre shares the remaining balance of the donation was provided by Secure Energy Services out of Calgary.

"We had a corporate sponsor who came to us prior to the event and offered to match whatever the Oilers were going to raise. We provided Secure Energy Services with the amount that we were able to raise, and not only did they match but they topped up the amount that was being donated back to the family. They gave them just shy of $10,500 to help through this process."

The Oilers' memorial game was just one of the many events held in the community to support the family, Lemaistre says it's amazing to see how everyone has pulled together.

"Okotoks Minor Hockey and Minor Lacrosse have done a great job trying to support the family through other avenues, they had the Go Fund Me account as well. The Oilers just felt it was so close to our hockey community that we needed to do something, so we came up with the idea and it was a huge success, and we were super excited to have them involved. We're going to make sure that their family can come out to all of our games compliments of us, so that we can continue to support them from now moving forward. Not just having the support immediate at the time of the loss, but follow through as they get through the hockey season, and get through all the firsts without their mom with them."
