The string of Summer crimes in Okotoks continues, as Sweetgrass Deli & Eatery in Okotoks was the target of an apparent break-and-enter this past weekend.

Owner Monika Griesser says she and her husband, who also owns the deli, found out about the break-in thanks to their alarm system.

"It was Saturday night around 11:30, very early for (a break-in) and the alarm company phoned us at home and said there was motion, and that people were physically in the store," she says. "So my husband came down, and saw the (front) door all smashed in."

Griesser says thanks to their protocol at the store, no actual theft occurred.

"Nothing was taken, because we always take the money out of the cash drawer," she says. "There's nothing in there, it was empty, and they didn't want anything else I guess."

Griesser says although nothing was stolen, there's still the damaged front door to deal with, and the lingering possibility of it happening again.

"It's just very frustrating, you still have to deal with all the work, and it's unnecessary costs you have to deal with," she says. "It's just sad that someone would do that, I can't imagine why somebody would just break things (that belong to) other people, it's just upsetting."

Griesser says the incident was reported to the RCMP, but there are no leads at this point.
