In case you haven't noticed the annual downtown High River construction season is well underway.

Detours all over Town mean driver's have to get creative finding ways to get from point "A" to "B."

Construction is centred around 6th Avenue where the Town is putting in new sewer lines and the roundabout next to George Lane Park.

The Town's Engineering Coordinator Sheri Burt says they've stopped construction on the roundabout for a couple of weeks though.

"So, we've cleaned it up so that it's ready for when the parade goes through on the long weekend. As soon as the long weekend is over and the parade's done, we're going to be closing that back down and going in and finishing the surface works that have to be done in there."

Burt says the traffic circle won't be cutting into anyone's yards, or taking much off the park.

"No private property will be affected whatsoever. We will be moving the round-a-bout slightly towards the park in the green section. We're removing three small trees, so it's not going to be a big deal at all."

In fact, those trees will simply be relocated to another spot in the park as part of the Town's policy on never killing trees, but relocating them whenever possible.

As far as how long the construction will last, Burt says the early Spring is helping, which means work could wrap up a little early if it stays good through the summer.

"We did have a great early start, which is great because we have a really aggressive schedule this year, with combining two phases in just this year. We are still planning to be done in late September/October and then we have a little bit of wiggle room into November if needed."

Burt says they may still have some smaller work to do next year around town, but says this is the last of the big projects they have on their plate for downtown High River.
