The MD of Foothills is allowing farmers and ranchers to purchase 2% Liquid Strychnine Concentrate.

Assistant Agricultural Fieldman Bree Webb says it's an annual program that runs until the end of June.

"It goes through the federal government and it's an emergency program that they put on that came out with the 2% Liquid Strychnine. Basically it started the beginning of March here, and it'll be going until June 30."

She says the bottles are not available to the public.

"It's only available to bonafide Farmers. So you have to have at least 80 acres to buy the stuff and you have to fill out forms, you have to know your legal land description and where you're going to put it. How much you're going to put on hay, crop, or just pasture."

Webb says Strychnine is used to control Richardson Ground Squirrels.

"They would need it if there's a bad gopher infestation like a Richardson Ground Squirrel infestation on their land. They have to have enough of an infestation to get it too."

The bottles are only available while supplies last, and Webb says they may move quickly this year. She asks farmers to call the Agricultural Field Services before stopping by to ensure someone is there to help.
