Proposed electoral boundary changes aren't sitting well with one person who'll be directly affected.

Livingstone Macleod MLA Pat Stier says splitting High River and Okotoks into different ridings was proposed before.

"Our great MLA George Groeneveld in the past had argued that successfully and Okotoks and High River weren't split up, unfortunately this commission now seems to think that's a great idea and I disagree with it entirely," Stier says.

He says losing Black Diamond and Turner Valley wasn't that bad since they are closer to the Calgary trading area and belonged in a more northerly riding than with Livingstone Macleod.

He begs to differ with the commission's report when it says the changes reduce the size of his riding. While he loses the west country he gains Waterton making it tough to represent such a huge area.

"Well, it is because I currently have 22 communities, 14 councils and two or three school boards, etc so as compared with a smaller riding like Highwood where there's just two major towns and three councils with the MD it's quite a challenge and you just don't have the ability to be prominent in any one spot," he says.

There's another proposed change that has him shaking his head.

"They've actually taken the Heritage Point, Dunbow, Davisberg area all the way south down to Mazzeppa on the east side of Highway 2 and put that into an expanded southern portion of Chestemere for goodness sake, if that makes any sense at all" Stier says. "If this commission was to pay attention to municipal boundaries where possible and natural boundaries so they brought the Chestemere riding south of the Bow river, it makes little sense to me and I'll be letting them know in very clear terms."

Albertans can let the commission know how they feel about the proposed changes through their web site.
