Livingstone/Macleod MLA Pat Stier has waded into the controversy around 911 response times brewing between the Foothills Regional Emergency Services Commission and Alberta Health Services.

Stier says he's been beating his fist on his desk on this issue for seven years now.

"I stood up in the House and I made a two minute members speech regarding the problems, and outlined some of the horrible incidents that have happened, where lives have actually been endangered because of this situation. It has to be rectified and it has to be rectified immediately."

Stier says if and when he and the rest of his party form government, they'll put the dispatch system back into local control.

"We've been putting up with this stuff, regarding this situation with rural EMS for years. It's one of our major, major points and we will be acting on it for sure."

FRESC says the delays for Foothills residents are too long and are putting lives in danger, while AHS says those claims aren't true and the system works fine.
