After extensive fund raising efforts, a Federal Accessibility Grant and some help from the Canadian Red Cross The Holy Spirit Academy in High River will have a brand new playground.

Site Supervisor and Project Manager with BDI Play Designs Brendon Van Hierden says it's state-of-the-art and constructed to include everyone.

"One of the big things is going to be the rubber tile surfacing which makes the entire playground very accessible for wheelchairs. We've designed this playground specifically with a lot of free standing components that are very accessible to the wheelchairs and with limited help from an adult they can get into a lot of the different components, especially the free standing ones."

He says who the playground is not just for those that are attending the school.

"It's for everyone at the school and everyone in the community and I'm also sure that it'll be a feature playground for people around High River. If everything goes perfectly I'd like it to be open in two weeks."

He says sometimes they get a little help to put it all together.

"A lot of these playgrounds we actually have assembled with volunteers, with 40, 50 or 60 volunteers coming out for three days to assemble the playground, and of course we'll do all the rest."

He says the playground and all of its components are made right here in Alberta.
