The 1991 murder of Okotoks teenager, Stephanie Spooner, has come to light once again as convicted murderer, Tristan Ryan has requested full parole.

Robin Spooner, wife of Rene Spooner, who was 12-years-old at the time of his sister's death, says the family is coping with the news as best they can.

"We're very disappointed, obviously. We expected that this would happen, but we would prefer for him to be behind bars forever. He brutally killed my sister-in-law," she said.

The 16-year-old Okotoks teenager was brutally murdered in 1991 by Ryan, known as Bradley Paetsch at the time, and Spooner says the idea of full parole is a hard pill to swallow for the family.

"We want people to understand what an impact this has on us. No relative, friend or loved one of Stephanie's should ever have to run into this monster on the street. We should never have to come face to face with him. Keep him away from us," said Spooner.

Tristan Ryan is set to go before the Parole Board at the Drumheller Institution this October.

No date has been set yet, however Robin says she plans to attend and present a victim impact statement.
