A team of Grade five students, along with their classmates, have helped to raise over a thousand dollars for charities they picked out.

And this year the classes picked the Boys and Girls Club of High River to give the money to.

Jade Chadwick, River Rommens, Alex Sewell and Indianna Moe were the team that spearheaded the project.

Rommens says they put giving globes in all the classrooms with a goal of two dollars for each student in the school.

Sewell adds they're very proud of what they were able to accomplish.

Boys and Girls Club Administrator Jodie Sieben says the money will make a huge difference.

"All the money that was raised goes back into our community," said Sieben. "We run the breakfast program, after school program and youth programs in the evening. Anything helps to provide a safe place for the kids."

Grade five teacher Karen Andrews says the students worked hard.

"We had a few different organizations we could have helped out but we wanted to keep it local," said Andrews.

Spitzee is a UNESCO School which means the school community works together to make a difference in the local, national, and international scene.

Spitzee does things like supporting the High River Boys & Girls Club, sending supplies to a school in Nunavut, and building playgrounds in Africa.
