The Foothills School Division is flush with projects, nearing an end or just in the concept stage.

One of the former is at High River's Spitzee elementary where the work hasn't been on the school itself but the roads around it.

Director of Planning Monica Kohlhammer says a lot of the work will make it safer for students.

"There will be signalled crosswalks coming into third (street) and Macleod and fourth and Macleod, so we'll see that, we're fortunate in working with the Town of High River in agreement with an opportunity to improve the safety around the school," she says. "So besides the harmonization of playgrounds and school zones that will be in place in front of the school, and other schools in High River, we will have the signal crosswalks and to the south we'll be doing some line painting and crosswalks, actually that should be done this week."

Kohlhammer thanks area residents who've kept their vehicles off the street to allow school buses to get through and says a date for completion isn't known.
