One person who doesn't have to worry about the hustle and bustle of the election is MD of Foothills Mayor Larry Spilak.

Spilak, along with Suzanne Oel, were both acclaimed in their Divisions in the MD.

Spilak says while he doesn't mind campaigning, it's kind of nice to not have to go put out signs.

"And I'm really grateful for that. I mean, elections are good, they're healthy. They certainly give you an idea of where you stand and what type of a job you've done for your community. But I also think by not having to run it also speaks to that volume."

Spilak has spent the last five years as the Mayor.

However, there's no guarantee that he'll maintain that position, as voters don't elect the Mayor within the MD.

Instead they vote for individual Councillors in each division.

Those Councillors then decide on a Mayor and a Deputy Mayor at their first meeting after the election.

Spilak says don't expect to see him with his feet up taking it easy over the next month either.

He says there's work to be done, in particular dealing with Growth Boards, water issues and the always present development within the MD.

He says he'll keep very busy during the election as he prepares for working with a new council starting Tuesday, October 17.
