Speed limits in school and playground zones in High River will be harmonized this fall.

Town council went along with a recommendation from the Policing Committee to make the speed limit 30 kilometres an hour seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to one hour after sunset.

Committee Chair Terry Coleman says it should alleviate any confusion for drivers.

"Confusion compromises public safety and these changes here will reduce the confusion about school zones and playground zones," he says. "We've harmonized the days of the week, we've harmonized the hours of the day so that people are no longer confused."

He says there was a time when school divisions had the same days each year but that's not the case anymore and people are left to wonder if school's in. Coleman noted there are Professional Days but not everyone knows when they are and that creates more confusion about whether speed limits are in effect.

Director of Community Services Lisa Reinders says in September stickers will go over the signs that are there now and a communications campaign will be held in August to make drivers aware of the changes.
