The "On-It" Regional Transit Bus took it's maiden voyage through High River and the rest of the Foothills Monday morning.

Mostly it was just to shuttle local Mayors and other dignitaries with the Calgary Regional Partnership around to show them the route and show off the bus.

High River Mayor Craig Snodgrass isn't usually one for pilot projects, and is taking a "wait and see" attitude when it comes to "On-It."

"When you do pilot projects and you provide free fare and all that kind of stuff, well of course the thing's going to be full. But as soon as you start charging people what the real fare is, well then things change right? They start dropping off and then you're stuck with the big project that you're committed to that you can't afford."

Calgary Regional Partnership dignitaries, along with local Mayors and other officials got to go for a spin on one of the new "On-It" transit busses Monday.

Snodgrass says that's not happening here, where the rates are being charged in full to those looking to use the service.

He says that'll give them a much better idea of "On-It's" actual use by High River residents, and whether it's something the Town will be on board with funding once the pilot project wraps up in two years.

High River Mayor Craig Snodgrass and Okotoks Mayor Bill Robertson perform the offical ribbon cutting for the "On-It" regional Transportaiton System in High River Monday morning.

The "On-It" transit service gets rolling Tuesday, October 11 between High River, Okotoks, Turner Valley, Black Diamond and Calgary.

Fares start at $2.00 to go between High River and Okotoks, to $8.00 to go from High River to Calgary one-way.

A month's pass is $170.00.
