Foothills residents now have a new form of identification for when crisis strikes.

Foothills Special Needs Association for Parents and Siblings have created a RED, response emergency details, ID card that includes a photo, contact information, Alberta Health Care Number, persons conditions and medications, doctor, and strategies on how to assist them.

Orvella Small, executive director of SNAPS, says it's a good idea for people to have more than one card.

"This card is open to anyone in the Foothills and the first card is free, and you can get other cards. Feedback we got from first responders is to carry it with your drivers license because that's the first place they'll go to look for it but you can also have one in your glove box because the next thing they look for is your registration."

She adds some seniors find it useful to keep a card with their caretakers.

Small says the cards will need support to keep them going.

"We had a small grant to be able to get it started but that's soon coming to an end and we want to be able to keep doing the card because we feel it's a really important support to the first responders so we want to be able to keep doing it so we're going to continue to find funding."
