As the B.C. forest fires work their way towards Banff National Park, Southern Alberta is seeing and feeling the effects.

Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement this morning for the M.D. of Foothills.

Individuals may notice symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath.

Children, seniors, and individuals with asthma or cardiovascular disease are at higher risk.

It is recommended that individuals stay somewhere cool and ventilated until air quality improves.
