Teacher Laura Bagnall, at Joe Clark School, says there has been lots of learning going on in her Grade 3 and 4 class as students put together Rube Goldberg Projects over the last few weeks.

The project is to make complicated machinery do a simple task.

"So that is either ringing a bell or popping a balloon, or they can catch an animal critter." said Bagnell.

It took just over a month to work on the project.

"There's been lots of trial and error in our process, and lots of success and frustration as they go along."

She added they have been doing lots of learning as they go along.

It gives students an opportunity to learn about simple machines they have learned about in the curriculum.

They needed to use incline planes, gears, pulleys, wheel and axle and wedges in the project.

"And also a lever, a domino or a funnel, or something like that."

The Rube Goldberg project helps to reinforce what the students have learned about simple machines from the textbooks.

"There are lots of really memorable teachable moments for them, which is really exciting, " Bagnall said.
